My Philosophy
The first time I ran for city council as a neighborhood activist, a little less than two years ago, I did it for our neighborhoods and to bring the focus of our city government back to the residents of Lowell. For far too long, government had been administered to benefit a few, rather than the greater good.
Since our last City Council election we have seen many positive changes.
We have hired a professional city manager, and have seen the start of a reorganization of our municipal government towards more efficient delivery of services to residents and business owners. The make-up of our city boards has become more representative of our citizens and have been open in their deliberations.
Financially, we have realized we are in great deficit. While this may not sound positive, knowledge of our current situation gives us a framework for future decisions.
Today, I am before you, as a community activist, working every single day to change lives for the better, whether it be through my full time job providing services to families and individuals at risk for homelessness, assisting individuals who are homeless to acquire homes; my involvement with the Wish Project, Lowell Community Health Center or Lowell Cleanwater Canals; or as your next City Councilor.
Every day, as an involved citizen, is about effecting change throughout Lowell in support of our neighborhoods, healthy homes, healthy families and the preservation of our natural resources. Progress in the City of Lowell can’t be achieved by government alone. It takes a partnership with our residents, our business community , our schools, area non-profits and our artists.
Now we are at a crossroads…we have the opportunity to move backwards, or we can continue the momentum of progress, where we all have a stake and where we all stand to benefit equally.
Ultimately, this election will have serious, long term effects on the City of Lowell. And I intend to make the most of our available resources to move us forward.
I respectfully ask for your vote on election day and allow me the honor to serve you as your City Councilor.
